What is it?

A compendium/registry/database/encyclopedia/catalogue of traits, abilities and actions that can be encountered in D&D 5e and Black Flag.

What is it for?

The purpose is two-fold. First, quickly find interesting, unusual, or simply fitting abilities for a creature you are designing or reskinning. Second, have a convenient way to check official wording, or copy-paste abilities into your own creatures.

How do I use it?

Use search and filters to find abilities that satisfy your criteria. Copy-paste the ability into your editor of choice, then replace placeholders with actual numbers and names.

What are "Roles"?

D&D 5e does not have roles (sometimes also called archetypes) the same way 4e did. However, roles are useful both for designing creatures and running them at the table. The roles used here are taken from Lazy DM's Forge of Foes and Flee, Mortals!. Forge of Foes is a guide and construction set, while Flee, Mortals! is an excellent bestiary.

Some abilities do not fall into any role.

Is it extensive?

Not really. We tried to only include unique, non-trivial features. If something is sorely missing, let us know.

Why no 2024 content?

Personal preferences and immediate needs. If you send us a table with abilities in a similar format, we can include it.

How do I make my own creature?

There's bajillion books, articles, blog posts and videos explaining it better than we ever could. However, our approach is this: fiction first, but mechanics are how you convey the fiction.
